Piriformis Syndrome
Piriformis syndrome occurs when the sciatic nerve is caught near the ischial tuberosity of the hip.
This condition causes pain in the area around the back of the leg and glutes. It may also cause numbness and tingling.
The piriformis muscle is involved in externally rotating the hip and is located nearby the sciatic nerve. Due to the proximity, the piriformis muscle can compress the sciatic nerve.
